For Educators
The Center for Global Awareness’ educational mission is to provide books and resources using a holistic approach, global perspectives, cross-cultural understanding, and balanced viewpoints to support educators and students from grade 9 through university.
Our Educational Approach …
The increasing complexity and interdependence of today’s world call for new approaches to teaching and learning. In response to this need, we have researched, discussed, and experimented to develop what we believe is the most insightful approach to creating our educational resources. We are passionate about designing books and materials infused with a holistic approach, cross-cultural understanding, balanced viewpoints, and global perspectives.
Our engaging books and educational resources stand apart from the “one-size-fits-all” world of standardized testing and corporate textbooks. With most educational materials coming from the for-profit sector—often carrying a hefty price tag—our affordable resources are offered through our nonprofit organization, whose mission is to provide stimulating, high-quality educational materials at reasonable prices. As veteran educators, we are free to write about and interpret global topics and world history without the constraints of corporate profit goals.
The Authors ….
Dr. Denise R. Ames draws on decades of teaching experience in secondary schools, community colleges, universities, professional development training, consulting, and public speaking to create alternative, holistic, and globally focused approaches to world history, the global economy, human rights, worldviews, and other significant global topics. Enriched by extensive cross-cultural travel experiences and a passion for lifelong learning at all ages, her books and resources reflect a holistic approach, cross-cultural understanding, balanced viewpoints, and global perspectives. She has written eleven books, numerous blogs, lesson plans, and educational resources for CGA. These materials are thoughtfully designed for educators, students from grade 9 through university, and lifelong learners.
Nancy W. Harmon, M.A., draws on decades of teaching experience in the U.S. and abroad to bring global perspectives to the CGA curriculum. Her book, International Folktales for English Language Learners, was inspired by her students’ enthusiastic response to the folktales from around the world that she used to teach English language skills in both U.S. and international classrooms.
